Jamaal Anthony Bowman, born April 1, 1976, is an American politician and former educator serving as the United States representative for New York's 16th congressional district. Bowman was born and raised in New York City, spending his early years in public housing and rent-controlled apartments.
On Tuesday, June 25, 2024, Bowman faced off against George Latimer in a primary election for the Democratic nomination for New York's 17th congressional district. With 84% of the vote in as of Wednesday morning, Latimer led Bowman by a wide margin, 58.4% to 41.6%.
Bowman spoke to a roomful of supporters after the results were announced, conceding defeat and congratulating Latimer on his victory. "I'm disappointed with the outcome of tonight's election, but I want to thank my amazing team and my supporters," Bowman said. "We ran a grassroots campaign that was focused on the issues that matter to the people of this district."
